Juvaderm

Juvaderm is a “next generation” dermal filler used by cosmetic surgeons to fill, smooth, and minimize facial wrinkles and folds. It creates a youthful appearance, and a single Juvaderm (or Juvederm) treatment can take ten years or more off of a patient’s appearance.

The gel-like substance is created with hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring, complex sugar that is already found in the body, created naturally through normal body processes. It is the main component found in the facial structure, or extracellular matrix, that gives structure and support to the skin.

It is found naturally in humans, so it causes few to no allergic reactions, unlike other fillers that are based on animal products. Allergen, Inc., a company that also creates other products used for cosmetic purposes, like Botox, manufactures the Juvaderm product.

Juvaderm, Juvaderm Ultra, and Juvaderm Ultra Plus are all available form experienced facial construction plastic surgeons. The benefits of Juvaderm were evident during product trials with this group, when they found that the Juvaderm product lasted longer and was more effective than other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Both Juvaderm Ultra and Ultra Plus lasted for up to a year.

For people interested in a younger-looking face, but not wanting to undergo plastic surgery for a facelift or some other, more invasive procedure, the results of Juvaderm tests were encouraging. Patients appreciate the long-lasting results, but are happy to have a product that is reversible, so that adjustments can be made as the face ages.

On the other hand, while Juvaderm causes fewer reactions than most dermal fillers, there is still the concern of allergic reaction that must be considered when using any injectable therapy.

For that reason, people who have severe allergies, especially those who have suffered from anaphylactic reactions or who have multiple allergies should likely look at other solutions for facial wrinkles. This is also true for those patients who have a history of allergies to substances that have gram-positive bacterial proteins.

Additionally, if a patient uses blood-thinning drugs such as aspirin or ibuprofen on a regular basis, they may result in increased bleeding or bruising at the injection site.

Anyone who is considering laser surgery should also avoid Juvaderm until after the recovery period is complete.
