Orthodontics:Straighten Up

Braces are becoming more and more common for adults, not just children. With the development of invisalign, clear orthodontics, and other invisible braces, adults are more comfortable seeking orthodontic treatment these days. The orthodontist today has many more options to find just the right type of orthodontic braces to meet each patient’s needs.

As adults become more and more interested in improving their appearance, there is growing interest in a variety of cosmetic treatments, including cosmetic surgery, Hair Transplant, and orthodontic treatment. When considering orthodontics, the best way to start is with a consultation with one’s regular dentist, who will refer you to an orthodontist. Some orthodontic treatment may be covered by Dental Insurance; another option for saving money on braces is to have the work done at a Dental School in the area.

The orthodontist will perform a basic evaluation to determine what type of orthodontic braces are most suitable. Invisalign and other types of clear orthodontics are popular choices. These invisible braces consist of a series of clear plastic aligners, each designed to shift the teeth slightly more into place while not irritating the mouth or gums. Like any braces, these clear orthodontics are custom-made to fit the patient’s teeth exactly.

Invisalign and other clear orthodontics are removable. An aligner is worn for a couple of weeks, to allow it to shift the position of one’s teeth slightly. Then it is removed, and the next aligner in the series is used, in order to shift the teeth a little bit more. One factor that makes these invisible braces more desirable than other types of traditional orthodontic braces is that they are so easily removable. Instead of being fastened to one’s teeth for the duration they are worn, these clear orthodontics can be removed when eating, brushing one’s teeth, or even for special occasions when the wearer might be concerned about their visibility.

However, visibility should rarely be a concern. Invisible braces are exactly what they claim: invisible. Rarely will anyone notice that the patient is wearing them. Unlike traditional metal braces, which can cause great discomfort from the metal pieces and wires cutting into the gums and mouth, clear orthodontics are designed with comfort in mind. More and more adults who wouldn’t have previously chosen braces are now opting for orthodontic treatment now that invisible braces are available.
