Male Breast Reduction
Gynecomastia is a fairly common yet embarrassing condition which many men have or will have at one point in their life. Gynecomastia is abnormally large breasts on men involving the growth of breast tissue. Male Breast Reduction, also known as gynecomastia surgey, can be the solution.
What causes gynecomastia?
There are several causes of gynecomastia, which include:
- hormonal imbalance
- medications
- drugs
- alcohol
- weight gain
- aging
- and puberty.
It can happen in one or both breasts. Sometimes it can be uniform but usually the breasts grow unevenly.
What treatment is available?
Many men will refrain from wearing certain types of clothes, avoid having to remove their shirts, and even wearing several layers to hide their condition. Those just disguise or hide the condition. It is treatable. Depending on the cause of the gynecomastia, there are options. If gynecomastia is the result of puberty, the main treatment is to wait and see because it will usually goes away on its own. If an underlying condition is the cause, treatment of the disease or condition will usually help. Otherwise, surgical removal of the glandular tissue and/or liposuction is recommended. For some, liposuction will be enough to remove the excess fatty tissue. Others will need surgery to remove glandular tissue. Many will need a combination of removal of the glandular tissue and liposuction. The average male breast reduction cost is $3000, which is usually not covered by insurance.
Male Breast Reduction surgery has increased by nearly 50% between the years 1997 and 2001. Male breast reduction success rate is high when the patient has realistic expectations as to the results of the surgery. As the male breast reduction popularity increases, the stigma or embarrassment of men who have gynecomastia hopefully will decrease also. Although much of the need for gynecomastia surgery is cosmetic, the psychological effects are nearly as great as the physical effects. Other cosmetic surgeries which can help the patient feel more confident are chin surgery (mentoplasty), sclerotherapy (varicose and spider vein treatment), and radiesse (wrinkle treatment).
