Cosmetic Procedures
Under the broad category of surgery, there are two different groups of surgical procedures with different primary intentions in mind, cosmetic procedures which are elective in nature and are typically designed to improve appearance, and reconstructive procedures which are designed to correct an anomaly, defect or other issue that is causing harm or impairing functionality of the body. The following is a look at some of the cosmetic procedures that are available to people who are looking to improve their appearance through cosmetic surgery. Make sure to consult your plastic surgeon regarding your options before settling on the idea of one cosmetic procedure over the others that are available to you, as there are usually several different ways to alter the same part of the body in order to obtain different results.

Most of these cosmetic procedures are capable of being performed on both men and women, and some are even performed on adolescents and children as well, although elective cosmetic surgery procedures are not typically recommended for patients under the age of 18. What makes these procedures cosmetic in nature is the fact that they do not have any necessity, but rather are chosen, or elective. Because these are optional procedures, many of these cosmetic procedures will not be covered by most insurance carriers, and financing for them will have to be sought out elsewhere. The average costs for each of these cosmetic procedures can vary wildly, so it is important to discuss your options with a cosmetic surgeon or plastic surgeon in order to determine whether or not your expectations are realistic. The better prepared you are before cosmetic surgery, the better you will benefit from the procedure.
